Learning Phase
In this phase we introduce all sport skills, continue with mastery of movement skills and begin to introduce golf specific skills. We will continue to develop and master the fundamental movement skills. Advanced FMS such as tumbling and bounding will be introduced. Continue to develop speed, mobility and stability throughout this phase. Appropriate weight and length of golf clubs continues to be paramount in this phase. Functional strength will be developed utilizing external loads such as; medicine balls, light tension bands and other lightweight equipment. Nine to eighteen holes a week of on-course practice, but still keeping it fun. Course lengths should be adjusted based on maximum driving distance. Two 90 minute sessions going through our Smash Zones per week. All golf skills will be introduced. Deliberate play is slowly replaced by deliberate practice stations and station times will be increased to 10 minutes per station. Form based coaching will be utilized in this phase. Other sports that help transfer skills into golf will be integrated in this program. This includes throwing sports, striking sports, target focused sports and wrist release sports. Ratio of competition to training will be 30% competition and 70% training.
